A young boy is questioning the existence of Santa. While he fights the urge to grow out of this belief a magical train arrives outside of his home. He climbs aboard, and rediscovers the magic of the holiday season while also making connections with new friends.
I absolutely love the illustrations for this book. Chris VanAllsburg usually had black and white pictures, but the colors and texture can really envelope the reader. As a huge fan of Christmas stories this is one of my all time favorites.

No matter how many times I read this book, or this book is read to me, I cannot keep from crying, nor shall I even try anymore. Chris Van Allsburg is the master of making me feel like a child again, with all my hopes and dreams intact...a child whose innocence remains, and who believes that the impossible will just take a little longer. I remember reading this book back in third grade and it was great then as it is still one of my favorite children books. It is a great fantasy book about what the North Pole is like. I especially liked the pictures and the detail of them. Of how it showed flakes of snow and having the dark look to it. With lights here and there showing the color and shadowing.

Beautifully written and illustrated. A sweet story of believing even when no one else does.

I actually grew up disliking the Polar Express and didn't really want to have anything to do with it. That is until I got older and watched the movie a couple times. I really enjoyed the movie and watched it over and over. The next time I picked up the book I looked at it from a different angle and ended up loving it. I think Van Allsburg's illustrations are absolutely phenomenal. I love that even though all the illustrations are dark, the reader can still see the detailing of the train and the

This is a classic Christmas story greatly embellished by the book's pictures. The pictures are bordered by white and stretch across the whole two page spread of the book. These large images are very detailed and almost look like real photographs on some pages. These detailed pictures make this dreamlike story seem more realistic than it actually is, captivating kids imagination and excitement for Christmas.
