Here's what we just put on our blog...........

Mommy Bookworm’s Thoughts: This was a very cute story that I could easily picture a grandpa telling! It is definitely a book to just relax and have fun with. The illustrations are wonderful. I love butterflies, so I especially like the page full of butterflies! I believe it is appropriate for the age range noted. Although it’s a fun story, I don’t think younger kids (under 5) would really appreciate it because it is set up like a comic book with different squares you have to read from, which I think they could kind of get lost in while looking at the pictures. It’s a great book for the 5-8 age range though, and I think even some older kids could get some good practice following the dialogue with this book.

Dahlia Bookworm’s Thoughts: I really liked the book because it was funny. It was funny because when the dad dropped the miracle-grow hair gel on the ground, the garden got huge. I can easily read the book and would recommend it to kids my age and younger kids too.

Daisy Bookworm’s Thoughts: I like the giant garden too. I like how the caterpillars ate all the vegetables and there was nothing left in the garden. I think I could read it with a little help. I would recommend it to other kids my age and older.

Discuss Epithetical Books Grandpa's Too-Good Garden
Love this story. My Grandma Clark used to read it to my cousins and my sister and I when we were little.

ok, I really have not seen my kids react to many books like they did to this one. It is still talked about by my 2.5 yo & my almost 5 yo. Very very funny as far as kid humor goes I guess :) Had to log it b/c had to look it up to request it at the library again... Another book that Dada reads just right in a funny funny way.

Adorable! James Stevenson's "Grandpa and Wainey" series are wonderful. The illustrations, such as the ones with flashbacks of the "Uncle Wainey" character as a baby, complete with a mustache, are genius. And the stories are endlessly entertaining.

Librarian Note: There is more than one author with this name in the Goodreads databse.

I'd give this 4 stars but my own children and the 4-6 year old children I've read this to have absolutely adored this. It's kind of comic format and is just great fun to read aloud. Somewhat of a mix of tall tales, family reminiscences, and Jack in the Beanstalk, it's great fun, especially when reading aloud.
