4th volume of Battle Angel Alita is another old 4 stars read raised up to 5 for me, an action-packed tale filled with ultraviolence (just look at Caligola's supporters happily sacrificing to the second division champion their arms as a good luck wish), thrills, laughs (Tigel's comedy moments), deep emotions and tears-dropping characters deaths, an explosive mix of Rollerball (1973), ・グランプリの鷹 Arrow Emblem: Grand Prix no Taka and マシンハヤブサ, Machine Hayabusa (two popular 1976-1978 sport anime).
Yoko/Alita starts remembering her past life on Mars and storyline is no more just an excuse for an endless series of fights, but they've became a narrative tool to add depth and umanity to the cyborg martial artists and human characters.
Gettin' better and better.

Excellent installment in the series. We were introduced to more of Alita's mysterious past as the cryptic story slowly unfolds. Much fun.Before Alita can follow the clues to her new memories she must complete one last game and its a major one. This is an action packed issue with lots at stake and a lot of collateral damage. I love dthe art on this volume its very kinetic and fun.
The conclusion to the Motorball arc, I actually liked this volume more than just a little but. Alita still doesn't have much characterization to make her that likeable or relatable, but Jasugun kind of fixed that with his backstory and motivations. If the next volume fleshed out Alita some more or continues to give her some good supporting characters, I think the manga should continue to get even better.
More of Alita's past is revealed. Motorball comes to a finale that is unexpected but appropriate.
Man this volumes moved. The depiction of action the motorball scenes in particular was exhilarating. Its interesting how the antagonist in this volume is sympathetic, so much so that the final battle feels tragic. Best volume so far, character and action tied to tightly together. Ido is being a dickhead.
Good volume.
