Explanation Concering Books Deep in the Heart of Trouble (Trouble #2)

"Are you packing a pistol right now?"

That quote, right there, is one reason I really enjoyed Deep in the Heart of Trouble by the wonderful Deeanne Gist. Was this a girl asking a guy? Nope, this question was asked of our lead Essie. I won’t give you her answer, but it made me laugh. I get asked if I’m packing heat all the time!

Another reason I liked this book? I needed - not wanted - a sequel to Courting Trouble where we first met the Spreckelmeyer clan. In Courting Trouble we encounter 30 year old Essie who is determined she will find herself a husband. The story is full of character’s mistakes, reality of what can happen when we let our guard down, how easy it is to compromise, dealing with the consequences and how beautiful grace can be. Even with that, when it ended, I thought “boo! That didn't end how I wanted.” But then the wonderful word known as sequel appeared. In!

In Deep in the Heart of Trouble we find ourselves four years after the end of the first book.

Texas bloomer girl Essie Spreckelmeyer (Courting Trouble) is still just trying to maintain her balance. The president of the local velocipede club has had her fair share of pratfalls, but her present situation is unusually perilous. Running her father’s oil company in this male-dominated boomtown was difficult enough before arrival of handsome, headstrong Tony Morgan.

I’m such a fan of Gist’s book and this one was no different. She’s so funny! I enjoyed the maturity of each of the characters and how they grew as people and to each other. Toss in a little mystery & intrigue and you got yourself a winning combination. Plus the changes the main characters go through aren’t over dramatic, cheesy or unbelievable. So yes, I shall continue to read through all of her books, because they are fantastic!

I’ll end with one more funny quote:
“There were only three reasons a woman’s name should ever appear in the Corsicana newspaper: being born, getting married, and keeling over dead. To provoke a full article not just in Corsicana Weekly but in newspapers scattered across the country was nothing short of appalling.”

Piece Appertaining To Books Deep in the Heart of Trouble (Trouble #2)

The city of my birth, Beaumont, TX. It was nice to read about the oil industry. I knew so many facets from the museums in Sour Lake & Beaumont. So, it was neat to read about it. This was a cute read, albeit a bit long and drawn out; the Texas way! It was nice to get this one off my TBR list. A pleasant read!

I gave the first book, Courting Trouble, in this series 1 star because it left me depressed for three days after finishing it. I had read one other book hers, Maid to Match, which was wonderful.I had forgotten that I had this book on hold. Since it downloaded automatically, I read it and it was great.If this book could be combined with the first then I would give the whole thing 4 stars. We see a nice twist where the women come thru in the story to help save the "hero".

If you are in need of a "fluff" book this one will do nicely. Essie Spreckelmeyer is a headstrong, very individualistic woman who is on the forefront of new things....the bicycle. Enter Tony Morgan, disinherited by his father, and trying to disguise his identity. The two are at odds from the start. As the tale develops you know they will get together, but the twists and turns in the book expose lots of mysteries and include the sometimes comical Velocipede Club of the town. All in all a relaxing

3.5 I liked this one even more than the first Trouble book. In this book our heroine finds her 'happily ever after.' I wouldn't mind reading more about Essie with all of her spirit and enthusiasm for life.

I must say, this novel and the one that has come before it have been the only two books by Deeanne Gist that I have been disappointed in. I had not realized that the first novel was even one of hers until I read this one. I did enjoy the second one a lot better than the first one, and the first one was not terrible, just not what I have come to expect from Ms. Gist.
