Similar to his Idea of Prose, Profanations is a series of short writings spanning Agamben's various literary and philosophical concerns. The main essay, "In Praise of Profanation," seems to function as a bridge of sorts between earlier and later components of A.'s Homo Sacer series (from 1995's volume I to 2007's The Kingdom and the Glory, vol. II:2).The reflections on W. Benjamin's "Capitalism as Religion" are astute, although A. still seems to assume that Roman legal code in all its nuances is

at times more pastoral observations than intellectual theory, agamben's essays transport one to a sphere of ideas bursting with moments of clarity but at times too dense for my poor unenlightened mind. definitely worth a (re)read.

Some very tasty essays in here. I especially recommend the chapters "Genius", "Magic and Happiness", and "In Praise of Profanation".

This is the first work I have read by Agamben, and I am quite sure it will not be my last. "Profanations," is a series of ten short but dense essays from the modern Italian philosopher. All of the essays were quite good, though I especially liked "Genius," "Desiring," and "In Praise of Profanations." His views of modern society, capitalism, and the loss of authenticity are eye opening and worth the read for anyone that is looking for the cutting edge of philosophy in the 21st Century (also check

If you like your Agamben short, sweet, and concentrated, then this is the book for you. Each essay takes on a very specific subject and dissects it from more angles than you could imagine. Potentiality is put aside for a while and Agamben returns to the problem of means/ends (if you're looking for a running theme), with digressions on literature, law, pornography, and cinema. Well worth your time.
